So, how did I decide this is what I want to do? I have always believed in helping others. Before going to college, I was active in community projects and had a heart for serving others. I have always been interested in hearing people’s life stories and what paths they took to get where they are in life. My mentors taught me by their actions to find opportunities to be a helping hand to those in need.
When I arrived at college, I had to choose a major. I had no idea that helping others could be a career. After taking a few social work classes, I was hooked. I had to become a social worker! I wanted to help be the change in the lives of children and families, and to implement that change with them together. In 2008, I graduated from Freed-Hardeman University with my Bachelor’s in Social Work.
After working in the field for a few months doing intensive in-home family counseling, I realized families needed a deeper level of therapy and trauma training. Feeling the need to grow in my skillset, I decided to attend Union University and obtained my Master’s in Social Work. I learned many clients have experiences of trauma and other difficulties in their lives that lead to deeper therapeutic needs. While providing trauma and attachment healing through an in-home pre and post adoptive program, I found a new compassion for those vulnerable to trauma and in need of mental health support.
After seeing the need for individuals, children, and families to receive more quality care, I decided to enter private practice so I can more effectively address the needs clients present with on a deeper level. I’m excited to help you begin your journey of healing yourself, and/or your family together. Because there is nothing more powerful than together!
